The Bullying & School Safety Foundation Video & Mission

The Bullying & School Safety (BASS) Foundation is raising funds to help us reach 1,000,000 children by 2020 in the name of Tommy Botell, a loyal fan of the show who is no longer with us. This fund will provide scholarships to Title 1 schools and schools whose primary population is children of active duty military. BASS was founded to help improve educational relationships and to encourage the teaching of the social skills necessary to create those healthy relationships in the classroom and beyond. At the BASS Foundation, we believe that:

• Punishment alone will not solve problems or change behavior. We must teach to our behavioral expectations. Zero tolerance policies are a pathway to prison. Students need to be educated in anger management, problem solving and other crucial life skills, not thrown away.

• Social Emotional Literacy (SEL) and Emotional Intelligence (EI) are important aspects of a K-12 education. We are lobbying for SEL and EI to have a more prominent place in local and national educational policies.

• Social skills must be taught just like every other aspect of the curriculum. We can no longer rely on motivational poster or a list of classroom rules to “educate” students about the life skills they need to succeed in and out of the classroom.

• Teachers need effective, inexpensive tools, like STTV, to help them connect with every student, teach to their behavioral expectations and be encouraged to use positive discipline to create real change. For more information or to apply for your school, please contact us today.

• Students are helping too and I want to thank Julie and the rest of her classmates for sharing this resource with us. The kids have been learning about Bullying Prevention Resources and they sent this article to all of us to read. Thank you and keep up the great work, kids!
