The number one false assumption in education is that students come to school ready and able to learn. These are not bad children. These are children who have been taught bad habits. The good news is that these habits can easily and systematically be changed for the better.
I believe that teaching succeeds where punishment fails and that zero tolerance, suspensions and expulsions are a pathway to prison. We cannot afford to continue to let children fail because we have not taught them how to behave. If not us, who and if not now, when?
